I have been so busy making and promoting my art, I have not pushed my book, Sensations in Color recently. This morning I will do that. Many of my friends, those who love my poems have not looked into this book. There are no Amazon sales for this since it was originally released.
I carefully designed this book to make it accessible, even to those who might feel averse (great word or this blog, isn’t it?) to poetry. The pages are eight by ten inches. This means most of my brief poems fit onto a single page. The lines are short, making each poem easy to scan. The print is large enough some people can read it even without their glasses.
Although I include metaphors, similes, abstractions, the poems are easy for even the poem-phobic person to get into, to understand. The poems stick to topics everyone can relate to, sunrises, moonsets, rainbows, and missed communication. New perspectives on these ideas await the reader.
One of my skills in writing is my mastery of sound. Wordplay (mist/missed) abounds. Assonance (similar vowel sounds) and alliteration (repetition of consonant sounds) delight the reader’s ear.
I worked hard on this book. I believe I fully succeeded in my mission, to write a book of poetry to stand alone in an art gallery. Intricate shapes, a plethora of colors, concise lines, unique visual imagery, you find these here.
In addition, I explore non-visual aspects of color. Green tastes like the shame of a green pepper, or the lush of a honey dew melon. Pearly dawn dances. Mauve evenings hum nocturnes. A valentine red poem of love. A gray account of the poet’s experience the day Kennedy was shot. And the hues of being a Berkeley hippie?
For my friends who might be skeptical as to whether or not they can enjoy this book, I have put it onto Kindle. Try it without the encumbering paper, the higher price. Then, once you see how enjoyable, understandable this tome-ette is, you can buy the book. Kindle, nor any other technology can do justice to the red-orange-hot-pink-gold cover made by my artist-friend Christian. It is guaranteed to brighten any coffee table!
